Patriots Equal Longest Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Years with Triumph Over Jets
Rookie Henderson has recorded five TDs in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run from the Brady era as they defeated division rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three scores as the New England squad secured an eight-game winning streak for the first time since iconic QB Tom Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in 2019
QB Maye threw for 281 yards and a score, completing 25 of 34 passes
The win bolsters the New England's lead at the top of the division as they advanced to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Fields scoring a five-yard TD to cap the New York's first possession
But the New England answered in the second quarter as the rookie scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third period to push the score to 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on Henderson. "He wants to be excellent."
Fields found Metchie late in the third quarter to reduce the lead for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the final period as the Patriots sealed the triumph
