Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's ODI Squad to Face Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-match ODI series versus India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a shock inclusion.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international side following managing only a single run in both of his innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of 47 in his previous ten ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has played 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a Test recall ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Updates

There have been indications of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a red-ball recall as Australia look for a answer to their opening batting issues.

Pace Additions and Fitness News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to seal a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from 29 October.
