A police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a partner that was assaulted by a knifeman has been awarded the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a knife to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown attacked with blade the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.

"Policeman stabbed," the constable was heard to say over his radio.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording released by the agency showed Brown, wearing in black with a head covered, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a weapon pointed forward.

He struck the officer who lost balance and dropped to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground despite being continually attacked with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a safe opportunity, concluding the confrontation to an finish.

Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "I need assistance on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the neck."

Sergeant Ansell received two deep cuts to his throat and more injuries to his limbs and torso, while Sgt Foster received cut injuries.

Officials stated Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stop his partner's blood loss before paramedics came.

This most recent award arrives subsequent to the trio of policemen were granted organizational Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the regional union branch in April 2024.

They additionally received a Area Courage Honor in July 2024.

"The efforts of each policeman in the end rescued one another and meant no members of the public experienced any harm."

Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in April 2024, according to authorities.
